Tunisia invites tender for wastewater treatment plant

The National Sanitation Utility of Tunisia (IOffice National de IAssainissement de la Tunisie - ONAS) intends to use part of the proceeds of loans from the EBRD and AfDB towards the cost the Small Cities Sanitation Programme for less than 10,000 inhabitants - Phase I (PAPC-I) to finance a wastewater treatment plant for the Bir Ali Ben Khalifa town in the governorate of Sfax, in the eastern part of the country. Deadline: 9 July 2024 at 10am (local time in Tunis) Reference of the funding agreement: EBRD Operation reference: S.T1-1 Tunisia

8MW Solar park inaugurated to decarbonise mine in Madagascar

The Ehoala Solar Park, an BMW solar plant set for an upgrade, was recently inaugurated in Madagascar by Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, The first phase, inaugurated in late April, comprises 14,640 solar panels generating 8MW. The second phase of the project will include the expansion of the solar energy farm by 6MW and the construction of a 19-turbine wind farm with a capacity of 16MW, Located in the city of Taolagnaro, also known as Fort-Dauphin, the solar park will be used by QIT Madagascar Minerals (QNN) to decarbonise the operations of its ilmenite mine. Kenya continues to dominate East Africa off-grid solar market

Sales of off-grid solar energy kits in East Africa in the second half of 2023 surpassed 2,5 million units, and Kenya is the largest off-grid-solar market in the region, representing 749/b of total sales. While this is a 14% increase compared to the first half of the year, it represents a 1% decrease compared to the same time in 2022. Sales of solar lanterns led cash sales, increasing by 22% from the first half the year. Still, it was 4% lower than the same time period in 2022. "While sales of 0-1.5Wp lanterns grew 33%, sales of larger lanterns with phone charging capacity remained consistent with the first half of 2023.
