United States Project Notice - Embracing Carers As An Integral Part Of Health Systems

Project Notice

Project Name Embracing Carers as an Integral Part of Health Systems
Project Detail In 2023, APEC took an important step in highlighting the crucial role of unpaid carers and published the APEC Embracing Carers Policy Toolkit. The Toolkit puts forward policy examples, case studies, and implementation steps to help all stakeholders better support carers. This next phase of APEC Embracing Carers will build on this initial work, particularly focusing on the integral role unpaid carers play in health systems. Caring for dependents – particularly those with chronic or debilitating disease – is hard work, and all too often support is lacking. By convening health, gender, and labor ministries; patient groups; and civil society, this project will provide best practices to help economies strengthen care infrastructure and support care providers as an integral part of health care and health systems. These best practices will be identified in consultation with stakeholders from APEC economies during virtual workshops, and findings will be highlighted in a workshop outcomes report.
