Feasibility Study On Aged Care Services In Cook IslandsStrengthening Social Protection In The PacificThe Technical Assistance The Purpose Of The Proposed Knowledge And Support Technical Assistance On Strengthening Social Protection In The Pacific Ta Is To Strengthen The Social Protection In Pacific Developing Member Countries Dmcs By Reaching Out To The Vulnerable Groups Key Priority Areas Include Social Insurance Social Assistance And Labor And Employment The Ta Outputs Include I Gender Responsive Social Protection Policies And Investments Identified And Prioritized Ii Capacity In Building Social Protection Systems And Delivery Of Social Protection Services For Vulnerable Groups Improved And Iii Knowledge Production And Partnerships On Social Protection Strengthened These Outputs Will Result In The Following Outcome Social Protection Systems And Programs Strengthened In Selected Pacific Dmcs The Ta Will Be Aligned With The Following Impact Enhanced Government Capacity And Leadership In Social Protection Development In Selected Pacific Dmcs All Pacific Dmcs Will Be Eligible For Assistance Under The Ta Upon Request However The Focus Of This Assignment Will Be On Cook Islands Which Has Requested Adb S Support To Undertake Feasibility Study On Aged Care Services The Assignment Will Be Funded By The Republic Of Korea E Asia And Knowledge Partnership Fund Being Administered By The Asian Development Bank 2 The Population Of The Cook Islands Is Ageing The Draft Cook Islands Policy On Ageing Indicated That I Between 1996 And 2016 The Number Of People Over 60 Years Of Age Increased Significantly And Their Proportion In The Total Population Increased From 8 3 To 15 2 Over That 20 Year Period Which Is Due To Falling Birth Rate High Levels Of Emigration Especially Of Young People And Increased Longevity Ii Some Islands Have High Proportions Of Older People While Others Have Below The National Average Of 15 2 And Iii Older Women Have An Increased Risk Of Vulnerability Due To Increased Rates Of Widowhood Reduced Savings And Longer Periods Of Ill Health In Old Age
