This workshop to be hosted prior to 2024 APEC HLPDAB Plenary meeting, will build upon previous discussions about regulatory and policy solutions for oversight of agricultural biotechnologies which happened in 2023 SOM3 HLPDAB. This workshop will continue those discussions to further regulatory cooperation for development, use, and trade of products of agricultural biotechnology. The hope is APEC economies will continue to focus on reducing resource costs, increasing efficiencies in regulatory processes, and lowering barriers to innovation and trade. This is an opportunity for in-depth discussions on ways described in the ‘Policy Approaches Document’, outline of which was presented at the last workshop and use the full document expected to be drafted leading up to the August workshop to strengthen regulatory cooperation among APEC member economies. Discussions are expected to contribute to regulatory cooperation leading to timely approvals of products of modern biotechnology, thereby enabling higher productivity, sustainability, and food security. |
