Due to the acceleration of digital transition, the use of real-time information and cutting-edge ICT technology within the travel experience is no longer a surprise to the tourism sector. Reflecting this trend, it has become crucial to incorporate smart tourism to existing destinations.
This project is intended to raise awareness on the role of smart tourism cities in sustainable development of APEC economies and to jointly explore strategies to ensure the success of such cities, thereby enabling the capacity building of project participants through an online workshop.
It will also identify ways to promote smart tourism by fostering amicable partnerships between local communities and private enterprises in building smart tourism cities. Specifically, the project will analyze cases of digital transition in smart tourism cities that incorporate technologies such as big data and virtual reality to empower APEC members in utilizing digital technology in the tourism industry in cooperation with relevant tourism stakeholders. |
