Delivering a terminal that promotes the use of public transit throughout Los Angeles County
Transit that serves over ten cities plus the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Torrance Transit directly operates a network of eight fixed bus routes, serving approximately 3.6 million passengers per year. Not only does it serve the City of Torrance, but the neighboring cities of Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Lomita, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Our team stepped in to help design the Torrance Park and Ride Regional Terminal. The goal? To create a strong civic vision for transit users, establish access for visitors, and promote the use of public transit in Torrance. The positioning of the transit center itself for the urban planning of the site helps reinforce the transit-oriented development. A future parking garage, retail development, and small industrial area are also planned.
The design creates a large, welcoming plaza that is covered by canopies. Programmatically, the building is separated by functions in two buildings, with the primary circulation in the middle. |
