In April a virtual public meeting was held to to share information about the intersection improvements, which will include a multi-lane roundabout, transit pull out lanes, and multimodal improvements. More public outreach is planned on this project.
This project is currently at 30% design, meaning the project footprint and initial design have been finalized.
Needs & benefits
This project will improve mobility and reduce collision severity at the intersection of US 2/97 and Easy Street in Wenatchee, by constructing a multi-lane roundabout at the existing signalized intersection.
WSDOT conducted a Value Engineering Study of the US 2/SR 285/ Easy St Interchange in 2012 to evaluate options for improvements to the intersection. The Value Engineering study identified a directional interchange over US 2/97 with an overcrossing of US 2 at Easy St. and the at-grade roundabout was identified as a lower cost interim solution that would provide an immediate improvement to the facility.
The roundabout will also include the following multi-modal improvements:
Additional bus pullout lanes in partnership/coordination with Link Transit on the east leg of the intersection
Extension of the Apple Capital Loop Trail
Shorter crosswalks
Provide a crossing over Easy St. on the south side of the intersection.
Timeline
This project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to go to advertisement Fall 2021. Construction of the project is scheduled to start Spring 2022. |
