Project Name Construction of Riyadh Metro Project
Project Detail Scope | The project calls for construction of Riyadh Metro. The metro includes six different lines with 85 stations will serve the Saudi capital using driverless trains. The total length of the metro is 176km, around half of which will be underground. The project is expected to employ 45,000 people. Schedule | In July 2013, the Saudi government announced $23.5bn of contracts, broken into three parts. American construction giant Bechtel Corp heads a group which won a $9.45 billion contract to build lines 1 and 2, and most of the track will be mainly underground. Its partners include Germany\s Siemens Aktiengesellschaft and US-based AECOM. Line 3, the longest at 40.7km, will be built by the Salini Impregilo Group leader of an international consortium, which includes Ansaldo STS (Italy), Bombardier (Canada), Larsen & Toubro (India) and the local Saudi contractor Nesma. A consortium led by Spain\s Fomento de Construcciones Y Contratas, and including France\s Alstom Transport, which will supply the rolling stock, and South Korea\s Samsung C&T Corp, won a $7.82 billion contract for lines 4, 5 and 6, which includes 25 stations. The contract is the biggest construction award for a Spanish company. Project is expected to be completed within five years.
