The development objective of the Second Phase of the Multi-country Regional Coordination on Improved Water Resources Management and Capacity Building Program (APL 2) Project for Egypt is to improve water resources and agricultural management and planning within and across beneficiary countries based on quantitative and spatial-based decision making tools. There are three components to the project. The first component of the project is improved local water resources and agricultural management. This component will comprise: (a) the purchase, installation and validation of various Water Information System Platform (WISP) tools and other ancillary equipment; and (b) support to National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Science (NARSS) and selected stakeholder ministries, agencies or institutions on the application of WISP tools to selected research issues on topics such as local and regional water resources, agricultural and environmental management. Ancillary equipment includes computers, printers, scanners, applicable software, weather stations, other pertinent in situ measurements of the water balance and short time intensive field data collection programs and equipment required for the full functioning of the WISP tools. The second component of the project is capacity building and project management. This component will comprise: (a) capacity building to the Recipient, NARSS and selected stakeholder ministries, agencies or institutions on implementation of the WISP tools; (b) carrying out of training activities and workshops for knowledge sharing with stakeholders; (c) financing of NARSS and other selected stakeholders staff s participation in international conferences and study tours on environmental remote sensing; and (d) support for the establishment of a national online portal for sharing and dissemination of data arising from the use of the WISP tools; T |
