The development objective of the Water Sector Improvement Project is to support the Kingdom of Lesotho in: (i) developing and sustaining an environmentally sound, socially responsible, and financially viable framework for the Metolong Dam and Water Supply Program (MDWSP), (ii) increasing the quantity of safe, bulk water supplied to Teyateyaneng, and (iii) strengthening institutions and related instruments in the water sector. This project paper seeks the approval of the Executive Directors to provide an additional grant in an amount of SDR 8.4 million (US$13 million equivalent) to the project. The additional grant will help finance the costs associated with completion of the original project activities given unanticipated cost overruns. Additional activities have also been included in response to circumstances that arose during implementation. These include consultant services for development of a Hydraulic Model for optimization of water supply operations, and detailed design along with environmental and social assessments of the tertiary water supply lines associated with the MDWSP. |
