Project Detail |
Armed conflicts in the Tillabéri region of Niger continue to increase the number of internally displaced persons and expose populations, particularly women and girls, to all forms of violence. Through this project led by a Nigerien NGO, Switzerland is supporting the resilience of affected populations by strengthening their livelihoods and community mechanisms for preventing and responding to protection risks. Niger has been experiencing a severe security crisis for a decade, particularly acute in the Tillabéri region in the west of the country, manifested by armed conflicts and cross-border crime. These threats, coupled with food insecurity and the effects of climate change, compromise the security and protection of populations, also leading to long-term displacement. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Tillabéri region will have the highest number of internally displaced persons in Niger in 2025 (44% of displaced persons), with 223,950 people in displacement situations. This impacts the delivery of insufficient public services, as well as the economic means of the population as a whole. Objectives Strengthening the protection of women and children as well as the resilience of displaced and host populations in the departments of Téra and Gotheye in the Tillabéri region. |
