Project Detail |
In line with the objective to help Ukraine develop national capacity in mine action and localize it in the mid-term, this project led by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) assesses the capacity of Ukrainian demining organisations to implement humanitarian demining activities in a safe and efficient manner. In a second step, the project provides targeted training and capacity enhancement support to selected operators. A quarter of Ukraine’s territory is possibly contaminated with mines and other explosive ordnance (138’503 km2). Over 80 mine action operators are already accredited, many of them small Ukrainian organisations. The strenghtening of local actors is a priority of the Government of Ukraine and in line with Switzerland’s International Cooperation Strategy. Given that many Ukrainian organisation do not yet have sufficient organisational, managerial and technical capacities and the sector still depends on international actors, targeted capacity building is necessary for their support. Objectives The overall objective is to sustainably strengthen the organisational, managerial and technical capacities of local Ukrainian organisations, thereby enabling further localization of the sector. |
