Project No. PPSTI_210_2024A Project Title Discovering Innovative Food Processing Technology to Cultivate a Low-Carbon Food Supply Chain Project Status Project in Implementation According to the UNEP, food systems contribute to a quarter of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions. The Asia-Pacific dominates the global food sector, making it essential to develop solutions to lessen its climate effects. This project aims to harness innovative food processing technologies to effectively reduce the emissions of greenhouse gas in the food industry. For example, alternative proteins produced through fermentation technologies could decrease meat consumption and associated carbon emissions from livestock; smart controlled thermal sterilization could make food products shelf-stable, eliminating the need for cold chain logistics. We expect extensive sharing and exchange of innovative solutions among all economies involved. The project will host a workshop in March 2026, bringing together public- private sectors from the region. It seeks to empower the food industry including MSMEs to adapt effectively to the transition and jointly cultivate the low-carbon food supply chain, thereby achieving sustainable green growth. |
