Project No. OFWG_02_2025S Project Title APEC Workshop on Marine Hazard Prevention and Mitigation in Fisheries in the Context of Climate Change Project Status Project in Implementation Marine fisheries are an important component of food security in the APEC region, and disaster risk reduction is a significant topic in APEC cooperation. Affected by global climate change, extreme events such as super typhoons and hazardous marine waves are becoming increasingly frequent. Marine heatwaves and other extreme climate events are altering the marine environment at an unprecedented rate. These events have impacted fisheries and caused losses to the property of fishermen. To this end, the project will host a workshop in Nanjing in July 2025. It aims to provide a platform for participants from APEC economies to exchange ideas, promote cooperation in the field of marine hazard prevention and mitigation, enhance early warning, forecasting, and risk assessment of marine hazards, and improve the capacity to respond to marine hazards. This will help reduce the damage to fisheries caused by marine hazards and promote sustainable development. |
