| Project Detail |
In Mozambique, maternal and child health and nutritional conditions are improving, but the maternal mortality rate is still high at 289 (per 100,000 live births), neonatal mortality rate at 28 (per 1,000 live births), and under-five mortality rate at 71 (per 1,000 live births), and it is believed that one of the reasons for this is the spread of chronic malnutrition. This cooperation project will operate a maternal and child nutrition service model based on the Maternal and Child Health Handbook in the two target provinces (Gaza and Niassa provinces) and strengthen the capacity of health care workers at health facilities and community health workers (APS: Agentes Polivalentes de Saúde) to provide community-based maternal and child nutrition services, thereby developing a maternal and child nutrition service model based on the Maternal and Child Health Handbook, contributing to the reduction of the rate of maternal and child malnutrition and the nationwide expansion of the service model. [Overall goal] The maternal and child nutrition service model based on the Maternal and Child Health Handbook will be expanded to the target provinces with a view to nationwide expansion. [Project Purpose] A maternal and child nutrition service model based on the maternal and child health handbook is implemented in the target districts with a view to future expansion. [Outcomes] Output 1: A maternal and child nutrition service model is developed along with the tools and plans necessary for its implementation . Output 2: The capacity of health care workers to provide facility-based maternal and child nutrition services using the maternal and child health handbook is strengthened. Output 3: The capacity of APS to provide community-based maternal and child nutrition services using the maternal and child health handbook is strengthened. |
