Project Detail |
Based on visits to Datong community, the project aims to understand and familiarize with surrounding communities, assisting residents in repelling wildlife causing accidents. Through community empowerment, it aims to incubate and cultivate community environmental self-organizations. It will conduct community co-management and agreement protection, establish and consolidate community conservation areas, expand protection areas, and promote community participation in conservation efforts. At the same time, it will respond to the needs of residents for development and livelihoods by exploring win-win approaches to improve residents livelihoods and protect the environment through sustainable ecological planting, community ecotourism, and nature education. This will promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of communities, fostering harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Main Problems: 1. Difficulties in reaching administrative lawenforcement 2. Traditional resource utilization behaviors exist in surrounding communities within the protected area 3. There are many communities and intersections around the protected area, leading to significant human interference 4. Local residents need alternative livelihood options 5. The protected area is relatively small, leading to habitat fragmentation for wildlife Solutions: Specific work solutions: 1. Community foundation work: 1.1 Community visits 1.2 Building good community relationships 2. Community co-management and agreement protection work: 2.1 Community empowerment and cultivation of community self-organization 2.2 Community co-management or agreement protection 3. Community alternative livelihood projects: 3.1 Establishment of Qingmei public welfare planting base 3.2 Community nature education and ecotourism Anticipated results/outcomes: 1. Through community interviews, conducting Good Neighbor Public Welfare activities, and installing wildlife deterrent devices, the awareness of biodiversity conservation, especially the protection of wildlife, among villagers in Datong Village will be enhanced, and the support rate for conservation efforts will reach 90%. 2. The self-management and community co-management capacity of the Datong community conservation area will be enhanced, the system and mechanism for community self-organization will be improved, and the Datong community conservation area will be successfully registered under the Indigenous and Community Conserved Area (ICCA) system supervised by UNEP, gaining more social recognition. Effective protection of the forest ecosystem will cover an area of ??1330 hectares. By patrolling and promoting awareness, human threats such as hunting, illegal collection, and illegal entry into the core area in Datong Village will be reduced to below 5 incidents per year. 3. The construction of a 150-acre Qingmei public welfare planting base is completed, involving the participation of 10 community women in planting 3000 Qingmei trees. Through the alternative economic activity of planting Qingmei trees, it is expected that three years later, when the Qingmei trees bear fruit, each household will earn an additional income of 2000 yuan. 4. By developing and promoting ecotourism routes in Datong Village, the number of tourists and visitors will increase by 100 annually, thereby enhancing the economic benefits of the community residents. 5. Summarize and share one copy of the Community Co-Management Guidelines for Nature Reserves?Best Practices at Jiulong Peak and share it with other protected area communities.
