Project Notice

PNR 70148
Project Name AFRICAN UNION TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR PANDEMIC CONTROL
Project Detail The institutional resilience of the Africa Centres for Disease Control (A-CDC) has been strengthened. The Africa Health Strategy 2016-2030 pursues the goal of an integrated, inclusive, economically prosperous, and disease-free African continent. In addressing these challenges, the African Union (AU) attaches great importance to the creation of effective, Africa-led approaches. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the need for strong, functioning African institutions in all areas of governance. Pandemics and public health challenges significantly impact the implementation of Africas development goals. This is further exacerbated by problems in leadership and governance, information, immunization and technology, healthcare financing, access, and delivery of related services. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have played a pioneering role in Africas response to the threats posed by disease and outbreaks. Since their establishment, they have played a key role in effectively addressing public health challenges across the continent. This became clear during the Ebola and Lassa fever outbreaks and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective The project has made the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention more resilient, making them better prepared for future health challenges.
