Project Name Supporting Rehabilitations of Almaty Hydropower Plant Cascade Project Number 58524-001 Country / Economy Kazakhstan Project Status Approved The technical assistance (TA) will support Kazakhstans objectives toward emission reduction and renewable energy development. The proposed TA will undertake various studies and tests to prepare options for potential full-scale rehabilitation of the Almaty Hydropower Plant Cascade, the oldest hydropower plants (HPPs) in the country. The refurbished Cascade will provide clean energy supply to the largest city and ancillary services to the southern grid necessary for stability and integration of new renewable energy generation sources. The TA was requested by the Ministry of Energy (MOE) and state Joint Stock Company Almaty Electric Power Station (ALES). The TA will help the government of Kazakhstan in its preparation of an infrastructure investment projects to support the road map on priority measures to increase the flexibility of Kazakhstans power system. signed between the MOE, the power system operator Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 29 May 2024. |
