Development of Energy Resources and Mining Sector Support Phase 1 Project |

The project will support the Government of Mauritania in strengthening the reliability and the integration of renewable energies of its power system network through energy storage investments. Integrated resource planning will inform infrastructure planning and facilitate private sector investment in renewable energy development and low-emissions economic development. The project will support development of the legal and regulatory framework for the nascent hydrogen sector, including creation of a national hydrogen development agency and implementing regulation to underpin the Green Hydrogen Law. Mining sector agencies will benefit from institutional support in terms of license management, compliance monitoring of operators and geoscience data management. Finally, the project will enhance technical and vocational training through curriculum updates at technical schools offering post-secondary programs in skill sets relevant in the fields of renewable energy, hydrogen and mining operations.
