Project No. OFWG_204_2024A Project Title Early Detection of Diseases Affecting Main Aquaculture Species to Enhance Sustainability Project Status Project in Implementation Early recognition and reporting of suspected disease outbreaks are critical for sustaining small-scale aquaculture in APEC economies. Having the tools for early detection enables a rapid response to contain outbreaks, increasing the chances of disease eradication. Operators of aquaculture production centers, who maintain daily contact with aquatic animals, are usually the first to detect abnormal situations caused by the presence of an infectious diseases. Therefore, the development of a guidebook containing technical data sheets, accompanied by the primary external and internal clinical signs of major diseases affecting aquaculture species such as rainbow trout and tilapia, will provide essential guidance for on-field recognition of the most important infectious diseases. This Virtual Guidebook will be a valuable tool for APEC economies, facilitating the early identification of disease outbreaks and disease reporting processes, thereby mitigating the presence of diseases and prevent their spread. |
