Project Detail |
Governance in the Education Sector in Lebanon Lebanon is experiencing an extreme economic, political and financial crisis. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Beirut port explosion in 2020 continue to put the country under pressure. The situation is compounded by the military conflict between the Hezbollah militia and Israel in Lebanon as well as the large number of Syrian refugees. Many people are affected by poverty. Most children therefore attend state schools. The armed conflict and the additional numbers of pupils from refugee backgrounds are severely impacting the state education system. Although the country invested in digitalisation during the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard education despite school closures, slow digital transformation is hindering progress. To ensure a functioning education system in the long term, the government therefore needs to improve the management of the education system and remove hurdles such as mismanagement and corruption. Objective Governance in the Lebanese education system has improved to provide decentralised and digital education management. |
