Because Indonesia is geographically and topographically prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, large-scale earthquakes and volcanic activity and the resulting tsunami disasters occur frequently. The countrys Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is in charge of observing and issuing warnings regarding earthquakes and tsunamis in Indonesia.Currently, through the efforts of BMKG and support from donors, information on earthquakes occurring around Indonesia and A tsunami warning transmission system has been put in place, and efforts are being made to strengthen the observation network and improve the system on an ongoing basis. However, due to a series of earthquake and tsunami disasters in 2018, in which tsunami warnings were not issued, the accuracy of tsunami warnings that were issued was low, and warnings did not reach residents, efforts were made to reduce human damage. It has become clear that it is essential to further improve the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of earthquake information and tsunami warnings issued by BMKG. This cooperation will strengthen BMKGs capabilities from earthquake and tsunami observation to information dissemination, thereby creating a system for BMKG to transmit more timely and accurate earthquake information and tsunami warnings to Disaster Risk Reduction-related organizations and residents. , contribute to the promotion of Disaster Risk Reduction activities by Disaster Risk Reduction related organizations and residents. |
