Project Name Regional Partnership Strengthening Project in the Department of Itapúa and Misiones
Project Detail Paraguay has a population of 7,152,703, and from the perspective of the labor market, it is considered a country rich in young people (27% of the population is between 15 and 29 years old). However, looking at the unemployment rate by age group, young people between 15 and 29 years old is 10.1%, higher than that of other age groups. Likewise, the general poverty rate is 23.5% and 33.4% in rural areas. In addition, the economically inactive population is 29.50%, the female proportion being 39.51%, higher than the male proportion of 19.65%. The departments of Itapúa and Misiones, which are the target areas of this project, are located in the southern region of Paraguay, being an area where mainly the agricultural and livestock industry is prospering. It is also rich in tourist resources such as fishing, popular crafts and traditional festivals. However, there is still a strong tendency to rely on exports of primary products, and agriculture is vulnerable to market and weather fluctuations. Due to the lack of adequate cost control capacity, the lack of financial access and the influx of agricultural and livestock products from neighboring countries, it is difficult for small producers to enter efficient and competitive agricultural value chains, making it difficult to advance in the reduction of poverty and economic inequality. As a result, the unemployment rate in the departments of Misiones and Itapúa is 3.5% and 4.6%, and the poverty rate is 27.5% and 28.6%, respectively. Faced with this situation, the Government of Itapúa and the Government of Misiones have requested the government of Japan, a project that contributes to regional revitalization, through the realization of seminars on the unique experiences and culture of the region, identification of regional brands to through the development of local treasures and training of leaders, raising the pride of the inhabitants, and establishing a model for regional revitalization and thus contributing to the regional development of both departments. higher goal Economic development is driven by regional promotion focused on the model of regional associativity, and the quality of life of the people of the target departments is improved.
