Project Name Lyu-Chuan - Shin Sei Green Waterway
Project Detail Every city should embrace their rivers Neglected waterfronts can become amenities that improve the local community’s flood protection and recreation opportunities. Located in the old downtown city of Taichung, in front of Taichung Railway Station, the Lyu-Chuan, also known as Shin Sei Green Waterway, has become one of the best places you should not miss in Taiwan. It’s hard to imagine that just a year ago—due to heavy pollution caused by household and industrial wastewater—Lyu-Chuan was notorious for its bad smell. However, the Lyu-Chuan renewal plan is changing things. The project is a series of water infrastructure works including source purification, sewage interception, and environmental restoration. To improve water quality and flood prevention capabilities as well as create an ecological landscape. In all, we developed a design focused around the concept that rivers are the soul of urban movement. We divided the project into four stages: water safety, water purification, environmental landscape construction, and vision empowerment. We also carried out data collection and environmental surveys to understand the history, culture, socio-economic activities, environmental quality, and ecological status of the project area. Now, along the waterway, there are eight attractions, creating new memorable moments each day and night for citizens and tourists. Lyu-Chuan is also the first river in Taiwan to receive a trademark, and with its unique commemorative products, it’s elevating the urban waterfront lifestyle to a whole new level.
