Project Detail |
Through a holistic approach deriving from the principles of permaculture, the project aims to increase agricultural production and the profitability of entrepreneurial initiatives of 11 target groups (770 direct beneficiaries), thus improving the economic conditions of the agro-pastoral groups of Laikipia North, and thus favoring way the resilience of communities in the arid and semi-arid areas of Laikipia County. The main actions concern the training and supply of equipment for agriculture, water access for four villages, support for processing chains suitable for arid climates (honey, aloe, opuntia), and strengthening the tourism sector. All actions favor environmentally friendly methodologies and have a positive impact in the fight against desertification and in the protection of local resources. The transformation of opuntia stricta, in particular, is a suitable method for containing the proliferation of this infesting species, the spread of which in the area constitutes a threat to the herds of the Masai pastoral populations. |
