Project Notice

PNR 44982
Project Name SR 546 - Kamm Ditch Fish Passage
Project Detail This project will improve the passage of migratory fish at Kamm Ditch located between mileposts 4.13 and 4.27 just east of Northwood Road along SR 546 (East Badger Road) in Lynden. Kamm Ditch is a drainage channel that flows generally north to south under SR 546. The existing culvert is a 6- by 4-foot reinforced concrete box culvert with two wingwalls that extends approximately 33 feet beneath the highway. This project will improve fish passage by attaching four winged walls to a new 14- by 8 foot precast culvert. Fish barrier correction is a priority Highways cross streams and rivers in thousands of places in Washington State, which can impede fish migration. For nearly three decades, WSDOT has worked to improve fish passage and will continue to pursue projects that reconnect streams and help keep our waterways healthy. The potential fish habitat gain from the removal of the existing fish barrier at Kamm Ditch is an estimated 3,094 feet, or just over a half-mile. What travelers can expect WSDOT will work closely with the contractor to minimize the inconvenience to neighbors and travelers. However, to complete this important work, a continuous 60-hour full closure of SR 546 at milepost 4.21, just east of Northwood Road is required. Drivers can expect the closure to begin at 5 p.m. during the first half of the scheduled week and conclude before the weekend begins. This closure requires a detour that will utilize: SR 9 SR 544 SR 539 Details of the full closure will be posted to this webpage and shared on social media. Additionally, advanced warning signs will be placed in the area 5 days prior to the full roadway closure. Timeline April 2021: Bid awarded to contractor. Sept. 19, 2021: Construction begins. Fall 2021: Construction ends.
