Project Name SANITATION AND DRAINAGE OF OUAGADOUGOU
Project Detail Construction of drainage and rainwater evacuation infrastructure in the Tanghin district, a locality north of the capital Ouagadougou. The works will also allow the realization of sustainable developments as well as the enhancement of the banks of the Tanghin canal in order to promote local economic activity. Objectives The project presented consists of the construction of a drain in the town of Tanghin, a district located north of Ouagadougou. In addition, provision is made for the installation of adjoining arrangements to the drain. This operation is part of a more comprehensive drainage and sanitation program for the Ouagadougou agglomeration. This Ouagadougou Sustainable Development Program (PDDO) is supported by the Municipality of Ouagadougou and is supported by the Burkinabé State. Once completed, this work will directly contribute to sustainable urban development as well as to the preservation of the environment and various socio-economic facilities (health centers, sports centers or markets) in the city of Ouagadougou. More specifically, the expected positive effects concern: (i) stabilization of the hydrological regime of the locality of Tanghin; (ii) reduction of flooding in the targeted area; (iii) securing economic activities during the rainy season; (iv) reduction of loss of human life linked to floods; (v) reduction in the prevalence of diseases linked to lack of sanitation; (vi) opening up of living areas; (vii) improving the coverage of places of residence by household garbage collection services; (viii) better accessibility to socio-economic infrastructure (markets, schools among others); and (ix) improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable populations including children, the elderly and people with disabilities. So, the project specifically contributes to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals (or SDGs) SDG 3 and 11 aimed at respectively promoting good health for all and the development of sustainable cities and communities. The project also contributes to the achievement of SDGs 1 (absence of poverty), 2 (food security), 5 (gender equality) and 8 (decent work and economic growth).
