Chile Project Notice - Copiapó Project

Project Notice

PNR 22788
Project Name Copiapó Project
Project Detail The Copiapó project, 65 km northeast of the city of Copiapó in the Atacama Region III of Chile, will deliver 260 megawatts of continuous 24-hour solar power, resulting in over 1,800 gigawatt-hours generated annually. The facility will operate at a capacity factor and availability percentage equal to that of a coal fired power plant, while providing a highly competitive price of power – and with zero emissions. This technology realistically has the potential to power the entire country of Chile – using two phenomenal Chilean resources, salt and sun. Chile has one of the best solar resources on the planet, and Chile’s nitrate salts can be used to collect and store the sun’s energy. The project will be comprised of two 130 megawatt (MW) solar thermal towers with 13 hours of full load energy storage, totaling 3,400 megawatt-hours of energy storage capacity. Copiapó has received all its permits, and is shovel ready.
