Work Detail President Cyril Ramaphosa said this is a new record for public investment in roads, energy, water, logistics and other infrastructure in South Africa South Africa has set in motion an infrastructure roadmap for more than 250 projects, the majority of which span the roads, energy, water and logistics sectors. At the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) in Cape Town on Tuesday (27 May), government agency Infrastructure South Africa launched the second edition of the Construction Book. The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure described the book as a live inventory of construction-ready projects that are funded and scheduled to go to the market in the coming 12 months. This is a showcase of the work being done in various parts of rehabilitating the country’s infrastructure, the department said. The two-day Symposium was held under the theme Driving Inclusive Growth through Sustainable Infrastructure Development in South Africa. Construction Book key to informing infrastructure value chain in South Africa The SIDSSA brought together key stakeholders, experts and decision-makers in the field of infrastructure development and showcases infrastructure investment opportunities in South Africa and Africa. Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, said SIDSSA marked “a turning point in our mission to turn South Africa into a construction site as we move towards implementation.” “This morning [Tuesday] we are launching the next version of our Construction Book with over 250 projects exceeding R238 billion, as well as announcing the top catalytic 7 projects valued over R11 billion which will receiving project preparation support,” said Macpherson on X. In the Construction Book, Macpherson said that through Infrastructure South Africa, “we are also strengthening our focus on project preparation.” “Too often, projects fail to be implemented because of poor planning, and through the project preparation grant by the National Treasury, Infrastructure South Africa is set to turn this around. It will ensure that projects are adequately prepared in order for investors to have more confidence in financing. “This again will help attract more investment, helping to see more projects being constructed. The projects highlighted in the Construction Book span priority sectors identified in the National Infrastructure Plan 2050, which include transport, energy, water, sanitation, and logistics. “For the first time, we are also including local government projects in the Construction Book, beginning with those in the City of Cape Town. This further expands the opportunities for private sector participation and collaboration. This Construction Book is a clear representation of the renewed culture of accountability and delivery under the seventh administration.”
