Balrampur Chini Mills, a prominent player in Indias sugar industry, is set to make a significant leap into the green economy with an investment of ?2,850 crore in the nations first plant dedicated to producing green polymers from sugarcane. This pioneering initiative will leverage sugarcane as its primary raw material to create environmentally friendly plastic products. Avantika Saraogi, Executive Director at Balrampur Chini Mills, shared with businessline that the polymers will yield plastic products that are completely eco-friendly. These innovative materials are poised to become a sustainable alternative to a wide array of single-use plastic items, including straws, tea cups, disposable cutlery, trays, bottles, and curd cups. The products manufactured from these green polymers boast remarkable sustainability credentials: they are 100 percent compostable in industrial facilities and can be efficiently converted into biogas, biofertilizer, or energy. This move by Balrampur Chini Mills marks a crucial step towards reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy in India. |
