Work Detail The Los Pinos roundabout viaduct, at the intersection of Provincial Route 4 and Hipólito Yrigoyen Avenue in Burzaco, is about to be inaugurated and already has an official name: Pope Francis. The name was chosen by more than half of the residents who participated in a referendum organized by the Municipality of Almirante Brown, which promoted the initiative to encourage citizen participation in urban infrastructure decisions. With a 99% completion rate , according to municipal reports, this strategic road project will ease the flow of more than 120,000 vehicles daily , substantially improving traffic at a key hub in the southern Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The project impacts the districts of Almirante Brown, Esteban Echeverría, Lomas de Zamora, Claypole, and Longchamps, areas that historically suffer from traffic jams during rush hour, with delays of up to 40 minutes. The viaducts structure consists of two 7-meter-wide lanes , one in each direction, with a length of 1,226 meters and a clearance height of 5.10 meters , as well as safety shoulders. This configuration will allow the smooth passage of light and heavy traffic, especially on Camino de Cintura (Route 4) and Yrigoyen Avenue, two key arteries for intercity transportation and regional logistics. The project had been halted due to the nationwide slowdown in public works, but was reactivated thanks to a joint effort between the Province of Buenos Aires and the Municipality , which committed to completing the work. The large-scale project also includes hydraulic works, road signage, and improvements to the urban environment. The name selection process was conducted digitally, using the local citizen participation platform. The Pope Francis option received 4,578 votes out of a total of 9,100 . The other proposals were significantly behind: Malvinas Argentinas (30%), Patria Grande (11.2%), and De la producción y el trabajo (8.9%). The municipality emphasized that this project not only represents an improvement in road infrastructure but is also a symbol of community integration and a tribute to a figure of social and spiritual significance, especially valued in the metropolitan area. In other parts of Greater Buenos Aires, streets, plazas, and public structures already bear the name of the late Argentine pontiff.
