The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved a new milestone as its concentrated solar power (CSP) project within the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records for being the highest capacity single-operator concentrated solar power plant in the world, with a capacity of 700 megawatts (MW). HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, received the certificate from a Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator at a ceremony attended by senior DEWA officials. “Achieving this new world record underlines our commitment to realising the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global leader in renewable and clean energy,” said Al Tayer. He highlighted the strategic importance of the project in advancing the UAE’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Al Tayer added, “This recognition reflects our strong dedication to innovation and sustainability. It showcases our ability to develop large-scale projects that align economic development with environmental protection, ensuring a clean and safe environment for future generations.” Fourth Phase Highlights The 950MW fourth phase of the solar park integrates three hybrid technologies: 600MW from a CSP parabolic basin complex 100MW from a CSP central tower 250MW from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels Previously, this phase had already earned two Guinness World Records: Tallest concentrated solar power tower, measuring 263.126 metres Largest thermal energy storage capacity, at 5,907 megawatt-hours, using molten salt-based CSP technology This latest world record further reinforces Dubai’s leadership in clean energy initiatives and its ambition to become a hub for sustainability-driven innovation. |
