A bid was submitted for a key project in the Lake District. Aviador Carlos Campos Airport, located between San Martín and Junín de los Andes, will be expanded and remodeled through a project tendered by the Neuquén provincial government. At the bidding process held on Tuesday, May 13, only one valid bid was submitted, corresponding to Nova Fusión SRL, after Edificios Comahue SRLs proposal was rejected due to non-compliance. The project, promoted by Neuquentur SE and the Provincial Directorate of Airport and Railway Infrastructure, involves the construction of more than 1,000 m² of new covered area and a complete transformation of the airport terminal. The project will be completed within eight months, with provincial funding and possible contributions from the municipalities involved. The works include the expansion of access points, a new arrivals hall and boarding area, improvements to internal circulation, the construction of eight retail spaces, new public restrooms, offices, overhangs, and a ground-floor bar. The entire building will be accessible to people with disabilities. These retail spaces will subsequently be put out to tender for use, which aims to contribute to the airports operational self-sustainability. This project responds to the sustained growth in air traffic in the region, which already exceeds 300,000 passengers annually, in an area with a strong tourism boom. The current infrastructure, at capacity, will be optimized to meet the growing demand for commercial and private flights. Governor Rolando Figueroa emphasized that the development of the airport is central to enhancing the value of the entire Los Lagos Region, and linked it to other investments in connectivity, such as the routes to Lolog, Meliquina, and Mamuil Malal, in addition to the new Cerro Chapelco concession. He affirmed that public works in Neuquén continue to be an engine of development and called for a joint effort between the provincial government and municipalities to ensure their execution. This expansion complements a previous tender for runway and apron works—taxiway, parking, and maneuvering—worth $700 million, already underway. This second phase consolidates a comprehensive policy aimed at strengthening airport and tourism infrastructure in a strategic location in Argentine Patagonia.
