The agenda items listed for the last 8 a.m. work session included a review of previous sheriff’s office equipment purchases, 2017 budget discussion, and discuss the appointment of an applicant for employment. The applicant for the position of ECRL was discussed. The 2017 budget review would be discussed at a later date. Oman said he has been in budget meetings with all department heads. Instead, it was announced the parking lot paving project at the sheriff’s office outpost at Cove Bay would cost the taxpayers additional money – approximately $8,300 more. The crew doing the prep work discovered an undocumented buried foundation. “It must have been from the old school,” commissioner Tim Wilhelm said.

The crew also nicked a power line and a fiber optic line. But the cost for repairs for those items would not be on the county dime. County chair Roger Tellinghuisen was concerned for the safety of the construction crew asking if there was any danger to the equipment operators.

“Yes, there is,” Commissioner Dave Oslin said.

The debris had to be removed from under the parking lot before the grading could occur. There will be additional costs incurred because the debris will have to be hauled away. No dollar amount was presented for the debris hauling.
