Work Detail 61.6MW German onshore wind farm will consist of 11 turbines Orsted has begun construction of the Bahren West 2 wind farm in the Brandenburg region of Lusatia. It follows the completion of the Bahren West 1 wind farm (installation pictured), which has been feeding electricity into the grid since March 2025. The new 61.6MW Bahren West 2 wind farm will consist of 11 wind turbines with an output of 5.6MW each. It will generate enough green electricity to supply approximately 45,000 German households. To feed the electricity into the grid, a new substation is being built by Orsted. Earthworks and road construction started in mid-May and will be completed over the coming months. Due to its proximity to the Bahren West 1 wind farm, existing pathways can be used, helping to minimise the impact on the forest. Stefan Bachmaier, managing director of Orsted Onshore Germany, said: “By utilising the existing road infrastructure, we can expand Bahren West 2 efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner. “This measure is part of our comprehensive approach to advancing the energy transition with respect for nature.” Foundation work will begin in the summer of 2026. This will be followed by the construction of the wind turbine towers. Full commissioning is expected to take place in 2027. “We are excited to start the construction work for Bahren West 2 and to work closely with local partners,” said Orsted project manager Miro Peer. In total, the Bahren West 1 and 2 wind farms consist of 20 wind turbines and have a combined capacity of 112MW.
