Company inks deal with Orsted and PGE to build suspended internal platform cages for Polish offshore wind farm Smulders has bagged a contract to manufacture suspended internal platform cages for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland. The company signed the contract with PGE and Orsted, who are developing the 1.5GW project in the Baltic Sea. The suspended internal platforms play a crucial role in the foundation structures of the wind farm, enabling operational teams to access the wind turbine and switchgear for technical interventions. The company will manufacture the steel cages at its facility in Zary and assemble them on the new Polish offshore wind terminal in Swinoujscie. Tender director at Smulders Jaap Jansen said: “The Baltica 2 project marks another important milestone in our long-term commitment to the offshore wind ambitions in Poland, a country in which Smulders has been operating own production facilities for over two decades. “With Smulders actively contributing to all three Polish offshore wind farms currently under construction, we are proud to play a central role in shaping the country’s renewable energy future. “We are committed to making the project a success in cooperation with Orsted and PGE.” The Baltica 2 project will feature 107 turbines with a total capacity of 1.5GW. The offshore construction phase has already begun, and seabed preparation works for the installation of foundations and subsea cables will commence shortly. |
