ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew) announced recently a significant investment of ?22,000 crore (approximately $2.5 billion) to develop one of Indias largest hybrid renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradeshs Anantapur district. According to the company, the project is designed to have a generation capacity of around 2.8 GW, comprising 1.8 GWp of solar and 1 GW of wind power, along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 GWh. This scale will make it one of the largest renewable energy complexes situated at a single location in the country. The foundation stone for this landmark project was laid by Andhra Pradeshs Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Real Time Governance, and Human Resources Development, Nara Lokesh. ReNew stated that the initial phase of the project will involve the establishment of 587 MWp of solar and 250 MW of wind energy capacity, coupled with a 415 MWh BESS. Power purchase agreements (PPAs) for this first phase have already been successfully signed. The company confirmed in a statement that the remaining capacity of the project will be developed in subsequent phases. |
