Rebound in sales of supplies marks a revival in private construction Sales of construction supplies increased 10.44% in April compared to March, according to the Construya Index (CI), which measures monthly sales volumes by the main private sector supplier companies. This increase represents the third consecutive month of monthly growth, an encouraging sign for an industry that began the year with sharp declines. Year-on-year, the increase was even more significant, reaching 25.8% compared to April 2024. The cumulative figure for the first four months of 2025 shows a 10.9% improvement compared to the same period last year, consolidating a nascent recovery in private-sector activity. The IC is comprised of leading companies providing key construction supplies, such as ceramic bricks, Portland cement, faucets, flooring, waterproofing paints, aluminum carpentry, and heating systems. Among them are: ACERBRAG PEISA Ferrum ParexKlaukol Cambre The Construya Group, the entity that compiles the index, emphasized that the improvement in sales is due to increasing macroeconomic stability and a slowdown in inflation, factors that have contributed to creating better conditions for the development of private projects. However, they warn that the continuation of this recovery will depend on the evolution of the economic context, both locally and internationally. The Synthetic Indicator of Construction Activity (ISAC), prepared by INDEC and corresponding to March, also showed positive signs, with a year-over-year increase of 15.8% and a cumulative increase of 5.6% in the first quarter. However, its seasonally adjusted measurement showed a decrease of 4.1% compared to February, indicating a still-unstable recovery overall. The sectors growth is driven primarily by the dynamism of private sector construction, particularly real estate developments and urban renovations, given the virtual standstill of national public works. If this trend continues, a period of sustained recovery could be consolidated, especially if favorable conditions such as price stability and a possible recovery in mortgage lending continue. |
