At the premier UP Energy Expo on 8 May 2025, Husk announced the launch of BEEM, a dedicated residential rooftop solar service aimed at rapidly scaling India’s 30-gigawatt residential solar market. A fully owned subsidiary of Husk, BEEM has been established to support the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana initiative, which targets 10 million residential solar installations by 2027 and seeks to democratize access to clean and affordable power. BEEM draws on Husk’s 16 years of experience in solar design, installation, innovation, and round-the-clock service. The company promises industry-leading service, safety, and quality assurance throughout the product lifetime. BEEM’s customer-centric, AI-enabled platform is designed to make the process of going solar simple, fast, and affordable for homeowners across India. The new venture offers a fully productized residential solar solution tailored to the specific needs of homeowners. From accurate system sizing and optimized space utilization to real-time access to generation data, BEEM enables customers to assess their needs, select products, and book purchase and installation entirely online. Its two inaugural products, Aura and Eternia, are designed for flat roof installations common in most parts of the country. Through its partners, BEEM also provides low-cost financing options and comprehensive support for subsidy applications and net metering. “PM Surya Ghar Yojana’s subsidy, low-cost loans and 15-day simplified application process have created massive tailwinds for residential solar growth in India, but the industry remains slow-moving, fragmented, unstructured and mismatched to homeowners’ needs,” said Anubha Shukla, Husk’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and head of BEEM. “BEEM not only addresses this mismatch, but does so at speed and scale.” BEEM will initially focus on four states: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the Government of India aims to deliver 30 GW of solar capacity through installations in 10 million households by 2027. Until the scheme’s introduction in 2024, the residential solar market in India remained underdeveloped due to high upfront costs, difficulty in identifying credible providers, and challenges around product selection, installation, and quality assurance. The government’s initiative includes a simplified application process that offers subsidies for rooftop installations, ensuring that the first 300kWh of power per month is free. The program also provides loans with interest rates as low as 7% and removes the requirement for a credit score. Substantial investments have already been made in public awareness campaigns, with further support expected. “BEEM’s AI-powered digital platform simplifies the entire homeowner journey for going solar, the same way the iPhone revolutionized mobile commerce 15 years ago,” said Husk CEO and Co-Founder Manoj Sinha. “And Husk is not stopping there. We will leverage BEEM to evolve India’s distributed energy sector into virtual power plants (VPPs) that will democratize the energy ecosystem and put energy production and trading in the hands of people.” |
