The Line F subway project, which will connect Barracas with Palermo over 9 kilometers and 11 stations, was announced by the Buenos Aires City government as one of the most significant infrastructure projects for the Buenos Aires transportation system. Although the bidding process has not yet begun, authorities affirm that this is a strategic and large-scale initiative, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026. The new route is designed to integrate with five existing subway lines (A, B, C, D, and H), as well as the Roca railway, which will reduce and redistribute demand on the system, which currently carries nearly 800,000 passengers daily. With this expansion, it is estimated that 300,000 new daily users will have access to more efficient transportation with improved territorial coverage. Among the expected benefits are improved inter-neighborhood connectivity and reduced travel times. Furthermore, Line F is seen as a key element in the modernization of underground transportation, supporting urban growth and the densification of the Buenos Aires vehicle fleet. The announcement has sparked controversy, as specific technical details and a precise timeline for the bidding process, scheduled for this year, are still unknown. However, the City Government defends itself by asserting that every major project begins with clear planning and a responsible announcement, backed by proven executions such as the Metrobús, the Paseo del Bajo, and the Maldonado Arroyo hydraulic project. These types of projects, which are highly technically and budgetarily complex, typically require multiple development stages: soil studies, environmental impact analysis, utility interference planning, and coordination with national agencies, among others. For now, authorities insist that Line F is a concrete commitment and not a mere campaign promise. |
