The regional government of Arequipa has allocated land in Matarani, Islay province, for the construction of a plant for the production of green and blue hydrogen. The land transfer has been formalized through technical and registry resolutions. The regional government of Arequipa has officially allocated a 160,1536-hectare plot of land in the Matarani sector of the Islay district and province for the construction of a plant dedicated to the production of green and blue hydrogen. In a statement, it is explained that the lands independence was formalized in favor of the Peruvian State through Official Document No. 447-2025-GRA-OAT, signed on March 6, 2025, by the head of the Land Development Office of the Arequipa Regional Government, architect Luz María Torres Tejada. This process is registered under Title No. 12022927, in accordance with the Land Registry Regulations. The announcement was made based on the results obtained during the Energy Forum Arequipa, a Global Destination and Supplier of Clean and Low-Carbon Energy, held in April 2024. The impact of this initiative has led the Regional Council of State to declare the construction of the Public Need plant, in an effort to streamline the administrative processes for its implementation. During its construction phase, it is expected to create 1,600 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs, which will boost the local economy and strengthen tax collection. The project also aims to attract strategic investments in sectors such as fertilizers, explosives, and steel, and will facilitate the export of green ammonia to international markets. |
