Work Detail Havells India Limited, one of India’s top companies in the Fast-Moving Electrical Goods (FMEG) sector, has announced a binding agreement to invest INR 600 crore in Goldi Solar Private Limited (Goldi). This investment is part of Goldi’s larger funding plan of up to INR 1,300 crore, which is expected to be finalized within the next 75 days. This move is a key part of Havells’ plan to contribute more significantly to India’s energy transition, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth. Havells has been exploring various ways to be part of the growing renewable energy sector, focusing on energy generation, storage, distribution, and consumption. This aligns with its current product offerings and strengthens its position in the energy transition trend. India’s renewable energy capacity is expected to grow at a rate of 16% annually until 2030, reaching about 500GW, with around 300 GW of this coming from solar energy. The country’s solar sector is poised for significant growth, supported by government initiatives and improved cost-effectiveness across the value chain. Solar energy generation projects represent a multi-billion-dollar opportunity in the next five years. Havells has already been a part of the solar ecosystem, providing products like inverters, modules, solar cables, and DC switchgears. The company has a strong presence in the residential rooftop and commercial-industrial segments. Due to the increasing demand for domestic solar modules, driven by policy changes, Havells decided to either start its own manufacturing or partner with a key module manufacturer. After a thorough evaluation, the company’s Executive Committee decided that a strategic partnership with a major module manufacturer, who plans to integrate domestic cell production, is the most de-risked approach. This partnership will allow Havells to secure a steady supply of modules and tap into the significant opportunities in the solar energy market.
