Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, visited Jaipur on April 29, 2025, to review the power sector scenario of Rajasthan. During the meeting, he was joined by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, senior officials from the state government, the Ministry of Power, the Government of India, and representatives from the power sector CPSEs. The review meeting began with a presentation that gave a brief overview of the power sector in Rajasthan. It highlighted the achievements of the State Energy Department while also addressing the major challenges and possible solutions. In his address, the Union Minister said that his visit to the state was important to understand the ground-level issues and find solutions to improve the power sector. He appreciated the efforts made by the Rajasthan Energy Department in planning infrastructure related to power generation, transmission, and distribution. Shri Manohar Lal advised the state to speed up the implementation of the sanctioned works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). He also emphasized the need to implement the reforms prescribed under the scheme for better results. The Union Minister further suggested that the state should start smart metering work in phases, beginning with government buildings. After that, the focus should move to commercial and industrial users. Once the benefits of smart meters are demonstrated in these areas, they may be extended to other categories of consumers. He said that a focused effort is required to improve the financial health of DISCOMs in the state. The Union Minister also mentioned that the Government of India would support the state in its renewable energy evacuation plans through both interstate and intrastate transmission systems. He assured that the central government would continue to support the overall development of the power sector in Rajasthan. The Chief Minister of Rajasthan welcomed the Union Minister and appreciated his initiative. He assured that the state government would take the necessary steps to speed up the implementation of infrastructure works in the power sector. |
