Work Detail US-based multinational giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) is establishing a significant ?2,500-crore manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, to produce psyllium husk-based laxative products, according to official sources. Dr. HG Koshia, Commissioner of the Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), confirmed the development to businessline, stating, One of the group companies of P&G is making a huge investment in Sanand. They are currently constructing a facility with an investment of ?2,500 crore that will manufacture premium psyllium husk-based laxative drug products. The investment underscores the growing global demand for psyllium husk, also known as isabgol, a widely recognized laxative in Asia, Europe, and North America. Beyond its effectiveness in treating constipation, psyllium husk is also believed to possess other medicinal properties. This move by P&G signifies a substantial expansion of its manufacturing footprint in India and highlights Gujarats attractiveness as a major investment destination for multinational corporations.
