Work Detail The Plateau State Government has just awarded a contract worth Naira 30 billion for the Langtang Dam Rehabilitation. This will foresee the rehabilitation and construction of conservation structures at the Langtang Dam. Also, this is set to address the issue of water scarcity in the southern senatorial district of the state.Construction equipment Furthermore, speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Governor Caleb Mutfwang pointed out that the project showcases his administration’s commitment to resolving the longstanding water challenges faced in the state. This project as reported by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) is being executed under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project. Furthermore, this is A program that is financed by the World Bank in partnership with the Plateau State Government. Langtang Dam Rehabilitation Project Factsheet Project overview: The project involves the rehabilitation and construction of conservation structures at the Langtang Dam, located in Langtang North Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, Nigeria. The primary goal is to boost water supply in the southern senatorial district of Plateau State and enhance environmental sustainability. The project is being carried out under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, a World Bank-funded initiative in partnership with the Plateau State Government. Significance: Addressing water scarcity in the region. Combating desertification. Ensuring sustainable water supply. Environmental restoration. Reducing soil erosion. Improving catchment management. Scope of work: Desilting of the two dams in Langtang North. Construction of hedge rows to minimize future siltation. Maintenance of washout embankments with laterite filling. Also, there will be planting of grass and trees to prevent erosion and enhance environmental preservation. Funding and contracts: The project is financed through a loan secured under the World Bank framework. A N30 billion contract has been awarded for the rehabilitation and construction works. Duration: Work is expected to be completed within 30 months. The rehabilitation project is expected to have a positive impact on the local community by improving water availability for agriculture and enhancing overall environmental sustainability. Project Duration Additionally, according to the governor, the project located in Langtang North Local Government Area will be completed within a period of 30 months. Furthermore, he described the project as a milestone in the efforts that seek to stabilize water supply in the region. Also, the governor also clarified that the project is being funded by a loan that was secured under the World Bank’s framework, in partnership with other Northern States. Scope of the Project The scope of the project entails the designing of the two dams in Langtang North. Additionally, there will be the construction of hedgerows that will prevent future siltation. Also, there will be the maintenance of embankment with compacted laterite. Lastly, the project engineer and contractor, Mr. Akin Fagbohun, gave assurance that the project will be completed within the agreed period and meet the required standards.
