Jindal Stainless, India’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel, in collaboration with AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a leading provider of clean energy solutions, has successfully installed and commissioned a landmark solar energy project at its manufacturing unit in Jajpur, Odisha. This initiative marks a significant achievement in India’s industrial sustainability efforts, as it becomes the largest captive solar power plant within a single industrial campus in Odisha, with a total installed capacity exceeding 30 MWp. The project comprises two major components: a 7.324 MWp floating solar power plant and a 23.02 MWp rooftop solar system. The floating solar plant is ingeniously set up on an internal water reservoir within the Jajpur facility, turning previously unused water bodies into productive energy-generating assets. This not only contributes to clean power generation but also helps in reducing water evaporation. The rooftop solar system has been strategically installed across ten industrial roofs at varying heights, ensuring optimal space utilization and maximizing solar energy output. Together, these systems are expected to generate approximately 44.3 million units of renewable electricity annually. This energy output is equivalent to powering between 12,000 to 15,000 households and will help Jindal Stainless significantly reduce its dependency on conventional grid electricity. Additionally, the initiative will cut down carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 32,208 metric tonnes each year, which is comparable to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 1,288 trees annually.
