Work Detail ReNew, one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, has officially inaugurated its 1.3 GWp solar power project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The project was unveiled by the Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, in the presence of Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma. This marks a significant milestone in ReNew’s journey and reaffirms its position as a frontrunner in the country’s clean energy sector. A notable feature of the project is its strong emphasis on the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The entire solar panel requirement for this project has been met using panels made by ReNew, with 90 percent of them manufactured at the company’s advanced facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan. This is the first time a project of this scale in India has been executed using entirely domestically produced solar panels. The power generated will be supplied to the state at a competitive tariff of Rs 2.18 per unit, reinforcing ReNew’s commitment to supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and contributing to Rajasthan’s path toward energy independence. Shri Pralhad Joshi, MNRE, said, “Today marks a historic milestone for India, but especially for Rajasthan — a state that is fast becoming the heart of the nation’s renewable energy revolution envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The inauguration of this nearly 1.3 GWp solar site in Jaisalmer, built entirely with Made-in-India modules — 90% of them manufactured right here in Rajasthan — is a shining example of contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat. I commend the Government of Rajasthan for this achievement and companies like ReNew for its commitment to sustainability and local empowerment. Rajasthan is not just harnessing the sun — it is shaping the future of India’s energy landscape.” Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman & CEO, ReNew, mentioned, “It’s truly a moment of pride for us at ReNew. The state of Rajasthan has always been central to our growth story, with approximately 5 GW of our total operational capacity located here, backed by investments exceeding Rs 21,000 crore. Additionally, we also have a 4 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Jaipur, underscoring our long-term commitment to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat”. Spread over approximately 3,500 acres, the project covers villages such as Rampuriya, Bhinajpura, Hastinapur, and Masuriya in the Pokran and Bhaniyana tehsils of Jaisalmer district. The solar plant is expected to produce around 2,490 million units of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of nearly five lakh households across the state. Beyond energy generation, the project will help reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2.3 million tons each year, making a substantial contribution to environmental sustainability. Additionally, local communities will benefit from fixed income over a 25-year period through land lease agreements for the use of uncultivated land, fostering inclusive development alongside clean energy progress.
