Faced with the virtual freeze on national public works , the province of La Pampa managed to continue with 53 of the 59 projects that were to be financed by the nation , thanks to a political decision by the provincial government and the support of the Legislature. This was explained by the Minister of Public Works and Services, Alfredo Intronati , who warned that the interruption of projects by the national Executive branch has already left nearly 900 workers in the local construction sector unemployed . Nationally, the situation is critical. According to Intronati, the adjustments implemented by President Javier Milei have paralyzed around 3,500 public works projects , affecting contractors and suppliers and generating an estimated loss of 200,000 direct and indirect jobs . In this context, the minister emphasized that the situation in the sector is one of emergency and that the maintenance and development of basic infrastructure is at risk . In the case of La Pampa, the provincial effort managed to mitigate part of the impact , but the situation remains adverse. If the Province hadnt intervened, job losses in the sector would have been three times greater, the official stated, highlighting that most of the construction companies active in the region are from La Pampa , so the reactivation or suspension of construction projects has direct consequences for the local economy . One of the critical points highlighted is the deterioration of national highways. The lack of maintenance is already evident in the overall state of the road network. These infrastructures are intensively used, and their deterioration continues without investment or improvements, the minister warned . Intronati also questioned the idea that the private sector can replace the state in the development of social infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, or roads: Thats a utopia. Only a well-established state can guarantee projects that improve peoples lives and sustain economic activity. Finally, the official referred to the last contact with representatives of the national government, in which the official response was uncompromising, reaffirming that the priority is to reduce the fiscal deficit at any cost , even if it means halting strategic public works. The unfortunate thing is that there arent even clear signs that inflation is being resolved. The loss of purchasing power is real, and private construction has also slowed down, he concluded. |
