Work Detail The state-owned oil company YPF has formally begun construction on the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur project , a strategic development for Argentinas energy infrastructure that will allow the export of unconventional crude oil from the Atlantic coast . The first concrete step is the construction of a tank farm at Punta Colorada , in the Rio Negro district of Sierra Grande , under the direction of Milicic SA. The initial works include the preparation of the land, installation of workshops and movement of soil , tasks that are carried out under the supervision of the Secretariat of Environment and Climate Change of Río Negro , the body that controls compliance with Provincial Law No. 3266 on Environmental Impact Assessment and the provisions of Resolution RESOL-2024-259-E-GDERNE-SAYCC#SGG . The entire project includes the installation of an oil pipeline of more than 600 kilometers that will connect Vaca Muerta with Punta Colorada , an offshore loading monobuoy for maritime dispatch, and an operational terminal that is expected to come online in the last quarter of 2026. This infrastructure will allow oil to be dispatched directly from the Neuquén basin to international markets, reducing logistics costs and boosting the competitiveness of Argentine oil . YPF projects that the system will initially be able to transport up to 550,000 barrels per day , with the capacity to expand to 700,000 barrels per day . The estimated investment exceeds USD 3 billion , and could generate more than USD 15 billion in export revenues annually , reaching peaks of USD 20 billion if the full expansion is completed. In addition to its economic significance, Vaca Muerta Oil Sur is presented as a key step in Argentinas energy transition , consolidating a logistics corridor from the Neuquén formation to the Atlantic. Provincial authorities emphasize that environmental monitoring will be constant throughout all stages of the project, ensuring sustainable development that meets international standards. With this progress, the country takes another step toward consolidating Vaca Muerta as a global energy hub , supported by new infrastructure that will position Argentina as a strategic supplier in the international energy market.
