Work Detail San Juan reactivated the Gran Tulum Aqueduct: a key project to guarantee drinking water to one million residents. After more than two years of paralysis, construction on the Gran Tulum Aqueduct , one of the most important water projects in San Juan, has officially resumed. The signing of the restart agreement marked the beginning of a new phase in the construction of this infrastructure, essential for ensuring the supply of drinking water to more than one million residents of Greater San Juan. The reactivation was possible thanks to joint efforts between the provincial government and the National Secretariat of Water Resources , which successfully secured national financing , in a context where public works have been severely restricted. It is worth noting that the financing is provided through an international loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) , managed by the National Secretariat. The work, carried out by the UTE Benito Roggio e Hijos SA (51%) – Mapal SACIA (34%) – Sigma SA (15%) , originally began in December 2018 and reached an estimated progress of 66% when it was interrupted. With the reactivation, the work is projected to be completed in 24 months , with the expectation that the system will be operational in the first half of 2027 . The project covers two major components: Punta Negra Water Treatment Plant , where a raw water intake will be installed in the outlet channel of the dam of the same name, from where the water treatment process will begin. Distribution aqueducts , which will ensure supply to various areas of Greater San Juan. In addition, the construction of a sewage discharge pipeline is planned as a complementary project, integrating the sanitation system into the new infrastructure. This reactivation marks a milestone for the San Juan water system , which not only seeks to meet current demand but also anticipate population growth in the coming decades. The magnitude and impact of this project make it a strategic component of the provincial infrastructure plan, with direct benefits for public health, urban development, and environmental sustainability . OSSE President José Luis Beltrán emphasized that work on the water treatment plant is now resuming, while the UTE confirmed the deployment of workers and machinery to various sections of the aqueducts route.
